MetaPV results and progress will be presented at the "Integration of Solar Power into Power Systems" conference in Aarhus, Denmark, October 24th.


PV SMART GRIDS IN PRACTICE
MetaPV will provide the scientific basis for transforming photovoltaics from a troublesome and variable source of power to active support for a more intelligent grid.
Amidst growing concerns regarding the capacity of the grid to support large scale integration of renewables, MetaPV is a first step towards a reliable solution for PV integration. More PV, with advanced control systems, can be a source of more stability. This is what MetaPV is demonstrating for the first time out of the lab and in the real world, on both a technical and financial level.
The active grid support from PV will be demonstrated at two sites: a residential/urban area of 128 households with 4 kW each, and an industrial zone of 31 PV systems with 200 kW, both in the Belgian province of Limburg.

TECHNICAL FOCUS
The project will focus on demonstrating control capacities for photovoltaic inverters, namely:
• active voltage control,
• low-voltage ride-through capability,
• autonomous grid operation,
• interaction of distribution system control with PV systems.
